The ‘AI Is Very Dangerous’ Trend
Last week we shared that an Anthropic employee had resigned, saying AI would kill people within ten years. In response, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published a piece a few days ago calling on AI companies to deliberately slow down model development, while also urging governments to step in with regulation. Then Sam Altman and Elon Musk quoted it and said they agreed. Sam Altman even mentioned in an interview that this is part of why they’ve been postponing their IPO. Then Trump said they were exaggerating the dangers, that what matters is being better than China, and added that all AI needs is a smart, high-IQ president.
We bounced back and forth through all of this this week, and it’s been genuinely interesting. One comment that caught our eye came from Yann LeCun, still one of the most respected voices in AI and someone who has consistently rejected the idea that language models are “intelligent.” He pointed out that Dario Amodei once said in 2019 that GPT-2 was too dangerous to release publicly. The paper LeCun linked, written seven years ago, listed Amodei as Research Director at the then-nonprofit OpenAI, backed by Elon Musk. A small reminder of how quickly names and allegiances shift in this industry.

The Fruit Fly’s Complete Nervous System Has Been Mapped
We previously shared that EON Systems had used a digitally uploaded fruit fly brain to control a virtual body for activities like eating and flying. The underlying research that made this possible is a connectome project run in partnership between Google and Janelia, aimed at mapping every neuron connection in the brain. This time, they’ve gone even further: mapping not just the brain but the entire nervous system connecting brain to body, 166,000 neurons and 125 million connections.

The creators of Sketch, once the dominant UI design tool before Figma, have announced Elyx Design: a product they describe as a rethinking of design for the AI era, offering a new kind of solution. It’s currently accessible in Public Beta via a waitlist; we signed up and are excited to give it a try.
