Nvidia Acquires Hugging Face 🫥
Nvidia has announced a deal to acquire Hugging Face for $12.9 billion. This was not on anyone’s bingo card for this year. For those unfamiliar, Hugging Face is a platform where AI models are hosted, and the company monetizes by offering businesses the infrastructure to run those models. It’s also a fairly small company for this valuation, with annualized recurring revenue that only recently hit $150 million. The move could be about more than current profits: as on-device language models become more common, Nvidia may be positioning to ensure its infrastructure becomes the default choice.
Hugging Face also announced a programmable open-source mini duck robot this week. We love it, and apparently so does everyone else as sales have already passed one million units.

OpenAI Ends Its Deal with Cursor
Cursor is a code editor that sells access to multiple language models under a single subscription. After being acquired by SpaceX, it made its own open-source models (the ones built on top of Chinese models 🫥) the default in auto mode. Other leading models like GPT 5.6, Opus, and Gemini were still available as part of the Cursor subscription. This week, OpenAI announced it has terminated its agreement with Cursor, meaning OpenAI models will no longer be available in the editor. Cursor responded by pointing out that OpenAI models accounted for only 5% of total model usage, suggesting it barely registers. Still, for a coding editor whose core promise is giving developers access to the best models, this feels like a real competitive constraint. It looks like Cursor is already thinking about carving out a different lane, leaning into its own models and Grok.
