OpenAI’s New Model Family: GPT-5.6
OpenAI launched the GPT-5.6 family (Sol, Terra, Luna). Early benchmarks show performance on par with Fable, and the models are included in standard subscriptions. In response, Anthropic extended Fable’s free trial period to July 19 for all plan tiers.
OpenAI also unveiled the Codex keyboard, a physical device purpose-built for agentic coding workflows.

xAI Coding Assistant Scandal
xAI’s Grok Build CLI was quietly uploading entire code directories to Google Cloud. When you use coding assistants, you’re already sharing your code with the model provider, but storing it persistently in a folder-level backup, including every file the tool can access rather than just the file you asked about, is not acceptable. Having opted out of model training doesn’t change anything here.
Their response made things worse: they said uploads don’t happen when ZDR (zero data retention) mode is enabled, meaning a privacy setting they never asked users about was silently controlling this behavior. Under pressure, they eventually open-sourced the Build CLI code.

Apple Sues OpenAI
Defendants: OpenAI and two former Apple employees, Tang Tan (former VP of iPhone/Apple Watch product design) and Chang Liu (former senior electrical engineer).
Apple’s claim: OpenAI recruited these employees and encouraged them to share confidential product information to accelerate its own hardware development efforts.
